A Brief History
Hope Mentorship Initiative (HMI), formerly Achievers Mentorship Initiative, is a Community Based Organization (CBO) founded in 2007 and registered as Achievers Mentorship Initiative by Department of Social Services and Development, Republic of Kenya in 2017.
HMI was formed by like-minded people residing in Murang’a who were touched and moved by a myriad problems affecting the young children and students in schools and out of school: idleness and unemployment, substance abuse, school drop-outs, unwanted pregnancies, unhealthy boy-girl relationships, peer influence/ pressure, sexually transmitted infections and other ailments, environmental mismanagement, street urchins, orphans, lack of basic needs inter alia. Therefore, the pioneer members decided to initiate this CBO to mobilize the young people to take a proactive role in ameliorating the aforementioned state of affairs. Achievers Mentorship Initiative operates on the principle of integrated or holistic approach in tackling the myriad problems: Environment, health and other socio-economic problems and to accommodate the diverse background and interests of the people involved. The organization also recognizes the gender concerns in the society and aims at achieving social justice, equity and poverty alleviation.
Our interventions include Motivational talks, awarding good performance (prize giving), Guidance and counseling program, Talents search and development, community mobilization, sensitization, training and counseling, charity programs, capacity building and workshops for parents, teachers and other stakeholders, drugs and substance abuse and other antisocial tendencies’ interventions among various groups in the society, and Boy child initiatives among others.
